A MAIL BOAT ASHORE AT CALAIS.
London, January 5,
The mail boab Empress ran ashore ab Calais, all on board being rescued. The vessel was entering bhe harbour when a heavy sea smashed the paddle-wheel, and ehe became helpless. There were 140 passengers on board aj* bhe bime, and for ben hourß they were in peril of bheir lives.
