SHOCKING SAW MILL ACCIDENT.
Whilst working in the saw mills of Messrs J. Sharp and Co., South Melbourne, a youth, named Frederick William Smith recently meb with an accitlenb which cost him his life. Smith nas clearing away lumber frojm a saw bench to make way for some timber which was being lowered on to the bench by an iron crane. A3 tho load was descending, the chain which was holding ib broke, and the timber fell upon Smith, pinning him to tho saw bench. No sooner bad tho accidonb happened than the circular saw was set in motion, and as the unfortunate young man's righb wrist was against ib his hand was cub off. He was taken to the Homoeopathic Hospital, whera it was found that, besides the ioso of his hand, he had sustainod Bevero internal injuries, and he died soon after admission. The above facts 4kro elicited in evidence ab an inquest which was held on the body of the deceased by Dr, Youl, and tho jury returned a verdicb of accidental death.
