Further accounts are to harjd of the battle at Ping-Yang, in Corea, at which the Japanese routed the troops of China.

The official statements of the battle assert that- only twelve thousand Chinese took part in the engagement, and that of these 9,000 escaped being killed or made prisoners.

This version agrees with the latest Japanese accounts, and explains the small number of actual prisoners taken.

The Chinese, in retreating from Ping-Yang, murdered and pillaged along their line of march, leaving a scene of terrible desolation in their

tracks.
