THE "AGE" LIBEL CASE.
VERDICT FOR A FARTHING.
Melboukne, September 26. The jury in the Speight v. Syme libel action gave their award to-day. They found that all the counts except the sixth, although of a libellous character, were fair comment, and on tne sixth count decided that it was not true and not a fair comment. One farthing damages was awarded.
The sixth counb refers to alleged waste at the. Newport workshops, and iB identical with the count on which the firsb jury awarded the plaintiff £100 damages. The question of costs has been deferred for argument in chambers.
