Answers to Correspondents.

J. H. Phillips (Ponsonby).—A temperance Committee consisting of Messrs J. Coupland, John Gittos, A. Knight, Wm. McKinstry, and G. W. Owen, was elected in the Ponsonby licensing district on February 19th. 1884, defeating the licenced victuallers' nominees by 1,257 votes to 818. The Committee was returned pledged to the platform of ten o'clock licenses, the abolition of upstairs :' bars, and strong roprossive measures with regard to Sunday trading. Tbe next election took place tho following year, when Mr G. VV. Owen was elected Chairman.
