The total Government railway revonue for bhe colony for the four weeks onding May 2&bh, was £93,852 10s lid, and the expenditure for the same period was £59,2$ I SBg lOd, the percentage of revenue being 00-91. The earnings on the Aucklaud lino wero £8,617 12a Bd, and the expenditure £7,010 03 lid. The most remunerative section was, as usual, the Hurunui-Bluff railway line, which conbributed £55,997 69 2d to the receipts, againsb an expenditure of £32,994 lls Bd. The total receipts for the North Island wero £31,634 4s 4d, and expenditure £22,309 13s 2d. In tho South Island the receipts were £62,248 6s 7d, and the expenditure, £36,932 5s Bd.

The vital sabistics for May gives the estimated population of Auckland, 1894, at 31,263 ; Wellington, 33,786 ; Christchurch, 16,704; and Dunedin, 23,002, the death rate for the month in Auckland boing nearly double that of either Wellington or Christchurch, and just one more than bhab of Dunedin. For the birth rato, Auckland heads the Hsb wibh 115, as against Wellingbon, 104 ; Chrisbchurch, 93 ; and Dunedin, 79. Tho botal berths in tho various boroughs throughoub the colony amounted t3 391, tho same figure as tho previous month. The total deaths in May were ten less than those of April. Of the total deaths, 83 were males, 67 females, 38 children under five years of nge, and 27 children under one year. Some of the deabha wore persons of very advanced years. Ab Dunedin one woman was 96 years of age, in Auckland there were bwo men of S2 and one 89 years of age.
