UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland University College Council was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present : — His Lordship Bishop Cowie, His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. J. Holland), Miss Edger, and Meesra R. Udy, J. Dilworth, F. Baume and 6. L. Peacocke. In fcho absence of the Chairman (Sir G. M. O'Rorke), Bishop Cowie presided. Leave of Absence.— The Council granted leave of absence to the Registrar, Dr. Ividd, for three months, on account of illness. New Members. —Mr Baume, the newlyelected member who was present, was welcomed by the Chairman. Vice-Chairman.—Bishop Cowie was appointed Vice-Chairman. Finance.—Accounts amounting to £711 14s 5d were passed for payment. French.—Mr herald Peacocke gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting of the Council, "That it is expedient thab a lecturer in French be appointed by the Council, and thab Mr E. Monbalk be appointed to the position at an honorarium of £ ." Petition.—Mr Ddy presented a petition from Huntly residents, asking the Council to sign it aa representatives of the property they have in Huntly, praying the Waikato Council to form a district called the Huntly Road District.—Mr Udy said he could not advise the Council to sign it, aa ib would mean thab they would have to pay two rates on their property instead of one.
