Wellington, this day. Baundkes, a publican, of Johnsonville, was lined £5 tor refusing to supply meals to travellers. Hawera, this day. The Lewis Hotel, ab Manaia, narrowly escaped destruction by fire last night. A defective chimney was the cause. The fire waa extinguished before much damage was done. Napier, this day. The Supreme Conrb was opened before the Chief Justice this morning. "Wo bili ' wa3 returned against Andrew Cooper, charged with breaking and entering. Bernard Keid, similarly charged, was released on probation. Charles Wright Lewis waa sentenced to eighteen months for forgery. New Plymouth, thiß day. Wm. Garram, an elderly man, dropped dead this morning in Courtney-street, near the Wesleyan Church. Garram and wife camo here from Auckland, but originally lived in Nelson. They kept a second-band dothea shop here. Failure of the heart's action, is supposed to have been the causa st death.* . . _ •
