LATE SHIPPING.
ARRIVAL OF THE MAMARI
The Shaw Savili and Albion Company's cargo steamer ftlatnari arrived in port at 2 o'clock this moruiug irom London direct, after a smart passage of 54 days taking up an anchorage ab the powder ground, where 30 tons of powder were discharged. At 2 p.m. the steamer berthed at Queen-street Wharf. The captain reports leaving London on April 26, and meeting with lighb south -"west winds down the channel which changed to north - west, crossing the Bay of Biscay. Teneriffe waa passed early on the morning of May 3rd, the N.E. trades being picked up in latitude 18 north, and dropped on the northern side of the line, which was crossed en May 10th. The S.E. trades were picked up next day, the wind remaining light till within two days of the Cape. On May 21st the Mamari rounded the Cape, running in close and signalling Capetown. After this light winds prevailed till May 26th, when an easterly gale in which the steamer rolled considerably was met with, lasting 4 or 5 days. From this date till making the North Cape at 7.15 a.m. yesterday the weather remained tine. At the North Cape and on the run down the coast a heavy swell waa ineb with till arrival as above. Captain Maxwell is in charge of the Mamari this trip, being assisted by Mr Roberts as first officer; Mr Banks, eecond ; Mr Renant, third ; first engineer, Mr Hervoy ; second, Mr Clennell. Refri^eratingengineers : First, Mr Turner ; eecond, Mr Fitzgibbon. The steamer, after the discharge of her cargo for this port, leaves for Wellington towards the end ol the week.
