Committees are being formed to send a general invitation to Mr Gladstone to visit j the United States. The Stock Conversion Trust (London), is promoting a scheme to convert the deposit receipts of ro - constructed banks into marketable stocks by means of a trust company. The Hon. Wm. W. Phelpa, L.L.D., who nntil last year was Ambassador for the United States in Germany, aged 55, is dead. The " Daily News " states that the Imperial Parliament will prorogue in August, and will not meet again until next year. The new schedule of rates of duty on woollen goods in the United States, comes into operation in January. Owing to wet and cold it; is expected that the Hungarian wheat yield will be 20 per cent, below the average.
