Morley, President of the Australasian Wesleyao Conference, speaks enthusiastically of the oratory of Dr. Talmage. The business of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening was disposed of before nine o'clock, and the meeting was unusually harmonious. Mr Harris, railway stationmaster at Auckland, has received three months' leave ot absence on fall pay previous to leaving . the railway service finally. Mr Stevenson, of Ashburton, is to succeed Mr Harris. On Saturday morning a farewell communion service will be held in St. Mary's Cathedral Church prior to the departure of Bishop Wilson and the members of the Melanosian Mission for the Western Pacific by the Southern Cross. Mr A. V. Macdonald, who is to have charge of the Auckland and Newmarket railway sections, arrives here from the South this week. Immediately on his arrival Mr Jackson, Superintendent at) the Newmarket Railway Workshops, will leave for the South. A Rhine jewel, said to be the largest stone of the sort found in the world, is on view in Mr Kohn's jeweller's window, Queen-street, set in a brooch. Tha stone, which is three-quarters of an inch in diameter, is clear as crystal, and closely resembles a diamond. A squad of recruits belonging to the "A" Battery of Artillery Volunteers, under the command of Lieut. Lipscombe, were put through a useful course of infantry drill at the Drill-shed last evening by Sergt.-Major Scully. Squads from the Victoria and City Rifles were also drilled. In the Supreme Court at Wellington yesterday, Louis Rother, of Wellington, sued Samtnan and Gusteds, of Bremen, claiming £1,190 commission on the sale of the firm's goods in New Zealand. Defendants were not represented. The jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff for £1,091 and costs. A bicyclists' case was heard before the Court ab luvercargill, yesterday, Miss Mason, driver of a vehicle overturned, suing Newbitt, Wilds,- yand Lithtrow in the Supreme Court for £200 damages. A nonsuit, was entered in Wesbitb's- case, be having ridden pasb the horse before ib shied. A special jury, after a ehorb deliberation, found for the other defendants.
