The roots of a tree in Tombstone, Arizona, clasped a water-pipe, and in time oxcrted such pressure that the pipe wag crushed. Sir Richard Barton, when in India, tired of the society of men, and daily dined with monkeys seated at his hospitable table. He addressed them as 'doctor,' 'my lad,' 'your reverence,' etc. A thief, convicted of robbing the tnaile, said that ho could readily pick out a letter which contained a bank-note, by the odour. He was blindfolded, and 400 letters were placed on a table before him. He rapidly took each one in hand, and emelled ifc. By this means he picked out the seven which contained money. Ah immense living whale came ashore &b Tokelund, Washington, a shore time ago, and died on the following day. Its'Jength was 174 feet 8 inches, and its waist measure 161 feet 6 inches. Its weight is estimated at 47A tons. The oil and whalebone yielded by this monster will amount in value to £2,200. Scientists who viewed this whale say tb must have existed 936 years.
