Lord Chief Jnsbice Coleridge, eldest son of the late Right Hon. Sir John Taylor Coleridge, ia dead. " [John Dnke Coleridge was born in 1820, and was created a Lord in 1873: He was educated ab Eton, and ab Balliol College, Oxford, was Scholar of Balliol and Fellaw of Exeter. He was called to the Bar ab bhe Middle Temple in 1846, made a Q.C. and bencher of his inn, 1861, a Sergeanb-ab-Law, November, 1873 ; and was Recorder ab Portsmouth 1855-56, when he resigned. He was leading counsel for the Ticabooe family in the celebrated Tichbone case, and crowned his great success as an advocate by his masterly cross examination of the "Claimanb." He was M.P. for Exetor from July, 1865, to November, 1873 ; was Solicitor-General in December, 1868 (when he was knighted), to November, 1871; Attorney-General from the lasb date to 1873, when he was made Chief Justice of tbe Common Pleas. He was made Chief Justice of Englaand> in 1680. Lord Coleridge contributed to the " Edinburgh Review " and other periodicals, and distinguished himself in Parliament by his powerful advocacy of Dissenters' dis-; abilities ab the universities.
