CUTTING RAILWAY RATES.

A BORDER DIFFICULTY.

, Sydney, this day. A KBTinur prepared by the Railway Commissioners shows that the Victorian Bailway Commissioners have reduced rates ranging from 20 to as much as 60 per cent, in order to capture carriage of the New Bonth Wales border wool clip. It is estimated 240,000 bales.of wool grown in this colony ere carried to the Victorian sea board annually. jTj -..'&'" Melbourne, this day. The Railway Commissioners have rei eeived a letter from the New South Wales Commissioners, in which the latter state it is their desire to secure an adjustment of rates on strictly commercial principles, without political interference. The Victorian Commissioners have replied expressing willingness to abolish preferential rates and charge mileage if New South Wales will do the same. It is unlikely that tbe latter colony will agree to this, as it would ibe all in favour of Victoria, owing to the proximity of the Biverina district to Melbourne.
