HARBOUR BOARD.
WORKS AND TARIFF COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the members of the above Committee was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present Messrs M, Nicool (in the ohair), R. Farrell, T. Henderson, J. J. Holland, C. Houghton and J. T. Julian. Dirt Boat,—The captain of H.M.S. Wallaroo wrote suggesting tbab the Board should provide a boat to remove dirt from vessels in the stream, as at present £7 10s bad to be paid fora bag boat.—lt waa resolved that a silt punt would be sent alongside upon notice being given to tbe Harbourmaster, the cost to be defrayed by the vessel applying. Wateb tob Latbines.— The City Council wrote stating that in future only 30,000 gallons of water would be supplied free to the latrines ab Devonport ferry, instead of 90,000 gallons as heretofore.—lt was resolved to recommend the Board to ask the Council to make the quantity of water supplied 60,000 gallons per quarter. Waiting-booms North Shobb*—lt was resolved that the waiting-rooms at North Shore bo included with the.ferry offices and waiting-rooms at the Devonport ferry jetty, the lessee to keep tbe same clean, and pay for any water used in excess of the quantity supplied by the City Council. / Hellieb's Whab*.—The Harbour-master reported that at HelUer's Wharf the lines had been cut from the buoy* recently placed there, and the lining boards ripped from inside the waiting-room. Some necessary repairs were also pointed oub as being wanted. —It was resolved to ask the Foreman of Works to attend to the matter. Water Swktly *ob the Dock,—The Devonporb Borough Council wrote offering to supply water for the Calliope Dock aba cost of £75 per annum, the Board to pay half the cost of laying the mains.— Mr Farrell suggested that the Council should lay pipes to the boundary of tbe Board's property free of cost, tbe Board to pay £50 per annum for the use of the water from a four inch pipe.—This was BBAssistant Stobekeepeb.—Forty two applications were received for the position of assistant storekeeper at the wharf. The Committee selected the names of the following ten applicanta to be referred to the Board for final appointment:—,!. Alexander, E. H. Mason, A. Wn, E. Preston, Jv\ J. Parker, J. Ruwell. W. W.
