The usual meeting of the Newton Borough Council was held last night. Prolent; Mr Thomas English (the Mayor), and

Crs. Shackelford, McMaster, Wilson, Bouskill, Holdon, Davenport. Municipal Association. —The Secretary of tho Municipal Association of New Zealand ab Wellington forwarded copies of a pamphlet giving information relative to the affiliated boroughs of the Association—Received with thanks. , Cox's Creek Bridge. —R. and W. Hellaby wrote drawing attention to the dangerous state of the road at Cox's Creek bridge. They recommended tho road be fenced.—lt was decided that the Town Clerk write to the City Council asking that representatives *of that body meeb the Newton Streets Committee at Cox's Creek to discuss the advisability of fencing in the road.

Tarring and Sanding.—A report of the Streets Committee in reference to tarring and sanding Ponsonby Road, Great North Road, Richmond Road, and two or three side streets, was read.—lt was agreed that 5,000 gallons of tar be ordered for delivery in the spring. rj

Annual Rate. —In accordance with notice of motion, the Mayor moved " That the annual rate of Is in the £ on all assessable property in the borough be struck."— This was agreed to.

Annual Meeting.—The annual meeting was fixed for 7 p.m. on the 14th May.
