Wellington, this day.
Three men named Manning, Murray and Galloway, charged with burglary and larceny from the Paikakariki Hotel, were to-day sentenced to six months' imprisonment. Fred Prince, charged with stealing six sets of billiard balls, waß admitted to six months probation. Mr Martin, S.M., said as the accused was a well-educated young man he had some doubt as to the application of the Act in his case; however, ho would surround probation with conditions which would tend to sever the accused from bad associates, and from his drinking and gambling habits. He requested Prince to find two sureties of £30, and bind himself in a similar amounb for good behaviour for twelve months, and, further, that during the time of probation Prince should nob reside in Wellington, nor [ within six miles of the city.
