Mr A. V«cht, the representative of the Intra-marine Supply Company, in the course of an interview with the special reporter of the New Zealand "Farmer" ab Cbristchurch, gives some very interesting information to New Zealand farmers. The firm mentioned is apparently prepared to purchase pigs in almost unlimited numbers at 5d per pound. "Some parts of the North Island," said Mr Vecht, "are Bplendidly adapted for the mess pork industry. The climate, the abundance of grass and green food, the numerous dairy factories are all favourable. The possibilities of Otago and Southland are very pood, bub perhaps the colder climate might) render breeding and feeding a little more difficult. There is scarcely any. part of New Zealand, however, where pigs could not bo profitably raised, and I think thab in a few years there will be "millions of pigs exported from this country. Canterbury, of course, is one of the good parts. As for Auckland, I do not know much about that place. I landed there first and made inquiries,, but was told that I could not get pigs there." What have Auckland settlers to say a* to the last statement in the above extract ? The Otago Union Committee declined to receive a fifteen guineas trophy from an importing firm for tho encouragement of senior football. The affiliation question has been*postponed till next Saturday.
