A steamer was sighted by the s.s. Mararoa on the 27th inst. keeping a westerly course. This was most probably H.M.s. Tauranga from this port bound to Sydney.

The s.s. Mararoa berthed at Queen-sbreet Wharf at 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after a quick run from Sydney. She left the Company's wharf, Sydney, at 5 p.m. on the 25th inst., light easterly winds and smooth sea prevailing on the trip across. The Mararoa resumed her voyage for Southern ports shortly after noon.

The 8.8. Wairarapa arrived at 9.30 a.m. tOday from Melbourne via Hobart and Southern ports. She left Melbourne on the 17bb instant, calling at- Hobart April 19tb, and arriving at the Bluff on the 23rd. Strong N. VV. winds were experienced tp Bluff, thence fresh southerly to Lyttelton, followed by moderate northerly'and fine weather to arrival.

The s.s. Tasmania arrived from Sydney at 2.30 a.m. to-day, and berbhed at the Queen-street Wharf. She lefb Sydney on the 25bh inst. in the evening, and experienced strong easterly winds till April 28tb, thence light and variable winds with smooth sea till arrival. Since her last appearance ab thia port, the Tasmania has been docked ab Sydney, where she received an overhaul.

Aorangi, now at Lyttelton, from London :—The New Zealand Shipping Company's Aorangi, from London, reports that when crossing the Indian Ocean on 12th April ab2p.ru. phe was struck by a tremendous sea, which broke aboard amidships on the starboard side, carrying away the starboard lifeboat, and the latter coming in contact with the porb boat both went over together. The sea. broke into the stokehole in tons, and alao swamped the saloon and staterooms. Parb of the lower bridge was washed away, and immense damage was done to deck fittings.
