A public meeting of accountants is advertißed to be held in the lecture hall of the Natioual Association, Queen-street, tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, at 8 o'clock. It will be remembered that at the last meeting held on Btb March, it was resolved that some of the articles of association of the proposed New Zealand Institute of Accountants needed alteration, and the local Committee was requested to endeavour to secure a reconsideration of the points of difference. Correspondence received shows that the local accountants have been unsuccessful. The amendments proposed by the Auckland accountants briefly put, were: — Degrees of membership for the lessening of the cost to' certain sections of the profession and providing for classification of new members ; encouragement of applications for admissions by the return of deposit to unsuccessful examiners, and abolition of the 12 months'compulsory abstinence from renewal of application for admission; abolition of the invidious distinction between commercial and public accountunts to the detriment of the formnr; provision for the annual election of officers from each con tire in rotation; definition of the powers and duties of the local Committee ; control of funds to ve-tt in the local Committee of each centre in which subscribed, subject to.contribution towards defined expenses of local Committee. The reply from Wellington states that the acceptance of the Auckland suggestions would mean to begin the scheme de novo with the chance of wrecking the whole movelnent. Ib now rests with the profession in Auskland to say what further stops (if any) shall be taken.
