SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

PONSONBY.

The report of the Pongonby Committee states that the efficiency of the three Ponsonby schools has been maintained, there being no falling off in poinb of numbers in the standard examinations. Tho average number on the roll at the Ponsonby school is 832, and the average attendance 711. At the Richmond Road school the average number on the roll is 305, and average attendance 278; while at the Bayfield school the average number oh the roll is 124, and the average attendance 10G. The i examination of the thrte schools was taken jusb after the epidemic of meaalos, and notwithstanding, thoipercentage of passes was very good. The Inspector's report on the standard examinations showed as follows : — Ponsonby : Passes, 58-9: failures, 10-7. Richmond Road: Pauses, s'rS; failures, 56. Bayfield: Passes, 58"9 ; failures, 10.8. The Committee think that it would be inadvisable to allow a larger attendance than now on the Richmond Road roli. Improvements have been effected to this school and playground, at a edsfc of £115, two-tbirds bf which was paid by the Board of Education. The deeds for the purchase of the additional playground at Bayfield school have not yet been completed, and until tbeee are registered or brought under the Land Transfer Act, the Board does not feel disposed to fence in tho ground. The defective state of the Ponsonby school library is recommonded for the favourable consideration of the incoming Committee. The balance-sheet shows a balance of £40 14s 8d at the close of the year. The Board of Education had nob continued its payments as heretofore, otherwise tho balance in bank ab the end of the financial year would have amounted to £101 7e 2d.
