HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AND BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board' was held yesterday afternoon, there being presenc :— Messrs .1. Bollard (Chairman), J. Gordon, J. M. Lennox, J. Swales. H. T. Garratt, McCabe, Bruce, and Ambury. Finance.—The Secretary reporbed thab the bank overdraft at date was £3_3 12s 2d. Tho total liabilities at the end nl the last month were £1,360 10s M. The contributions still duo amounted to £497 6s Id. Accounts amounting to £769 4s 8d were pa.-?e:l for payment. , Costley Kome.--Aii application was made on behalf of an infirm old woman, 71 years of o»e, by hor four sons, to have her admitted to bhe Costley Home for the Aged Poor, on tho payment ot 2s Gd per week oach by bhe sons, for hor maintenance. — Mr Lennox moved thab bhe old lady be admitted, bub bho majority of the Boaird objected to the Costley Homo being mado a cheap boardinghouse.—Mr Ambury eaid thab they could only deail with destitute cases, and this person was nob destitute.—lb was decidod nob bo admit the woman.—Several other applications ior the admission of aged persons destibute of means to bho Homo were dealt wibh.

House Committee's Report.—Tho House Committee reported bhab Dr. Mafcgill bad boen appointed house physician ab bhe Hospital, the appointment to date from April Ist.—The matter of the sibe for the infectious fever ward was deferred. Hospital.—The House Surgeon reported bhab bhe number ot pabients at lasb reburn was 108 ; admitted since, 37 ; deaths, 6 ; discharged, 34 ; remaining at date, 105. Costley Home Committee.—On the recommendation of this Committee, ib was decidod bo requesb the Public Truaboe to Havo a survey and sub-division made of two portions of tho Ellerslie reserve, and to obtain a valuation by experts of this land, and also of the land proposed bo be purchased at Epsom. Ib was decidod also to inform tho Trustee thab tho Education Board would have an opportunity of purchasing a site for a school if the reserve were subdivided and offered for sale by public auction. Finance Committee. —Thia Commitbee reporbed thab the balance required for the ensuing yoar would be £11,396 9a Id.—The Commitbee recommended that a contribution of 257-2,OOOths of a penny in the £ on the rateable properby be required from tho local authorises. This sum, with the Government subsidy, would amounb to £10,621 12s, leaving a estimated deficiency on March next of £774 17s Id.

Board Officers.— On tho mobion of Mr J.Gordon ib was resolved, "That bho Committee appointed on 6th Dec, 1593, to in quire into and report upon tho duties performed by the several officors in the various institutions under the control of the Board, and generally to offer such suggestions as may present themselves for the better and more economical administration of tho funds at the disposal of bhe Board, be respecbfully requested to bring up their report aa soon as practicable after the printing of the annual accounts."
