OUR CRICKETERS.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP TIE.

AUCKLAND V/ PARNELL.

Despite the very unpleasant weather whiph prevailed on Saturday afternoon, there was a larger attendance of spectators than usual on the Domain oval to witness the cricket match between the Auckland and Farnell Cricket Clubs. The raw which fell between the hours of twelve and two did no damage to the turf, from a batsman's point of view, and although the grass was damp, it quickly dried, so that the bowlers were ' not handicapped for any lengthy period. The wicket \»&b voted on all hands in favour of the batsmen, tht only drawback being the deceiving light. J. Young, the Parnell captain, won the toss and elected to take tirsb use of the wicket. Messrs J. N. Fowke and C. Hesketh officiated as umpires. I. Mills and C. B, King represented Parnell at the wickets, R. Neill and D. Clayton opening the attack for Auckland. Before a run had been scored, King skied Neill towards the pavilion, where Wilson made a well-judged catch. W. Whelan followed, but after making a nice leg stroke for 3, was clean bowled by Neill. Two wickets for three runs was not a very promising commencement for Parnell. Lawson joined Mills and this pair both played carefully, runs coming very slowly. With the total at 21, Lawson, who had scored seven singles and a three, stepped out to hib Neill and was neatly stumped by tht? Rev. I. Richards. Nicholson partnered Mills and everyone was expecting a long stand to be made, bub only 9 rune had been added when Mills was caught off a miss hib and the board showed 30—4—6. The Parnell skipper, J. Young, filled tha vacancy, and by careful play the score wae' taken to 42, when Young had to retire lbw to Jacobs, who had relieved Clayton with the ball. 42—5—6. A. Rowe, the hardhitter, joined Nicholson, and a change, came over the scene. Runs came at a faeb rate from both batsmen, Nicholson's pretty strokes eliciting rounds of applause.' This partnership added 38 rune to ParneU'a total, when Rowe was caught by T. . Neill for a 6core of vigorous 20, which included one fine hib for four. 80—6—20. Krone, a left-handed batsman and a recent arrival from Melbourne, was the nexb, and another serviceable stand was made, till Krone was caughb by Hatton off Lundon. 106—7—13. Cantley joined Nichol< son, who -vas playing a grand innings and had forty runs to his credit. After adding three more runs, however, Nicholson was caught by R. Neill off Lundon. He had played a sterling and stylish innings for 43, and was loudly applauded as he returned to the pavilion. 109—8—43. Holle joined Cantley, but the latter's stay was brief, being bowled by R. Neill after contributing three runs. Stone was the lasb man, but after seven more runs had been recorded, Stone was caught by Clayton. Holle was not out with ten to bis credit, which he had made in three strokes, two 3's and one 4. The innings closed for 122 runs. A. Jacobs and J. Arneil started Auckland's innings to the bowling of Laweon and I. Mills. After seven runs had been scored, Mills dismissed Jacobs.
