The weather was magnificent for the firsb day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Auburnn Meeting, buj: the attendance of the public was hardly as good as üßual. The racing was excellent as regards close finishes, bub the sbarbing of Mr Chapman did nob give satisfaction. The amount pub through the machine waß £5,019, a slighb falling-off from last year.

Hawke's Bay Cup of 300sovs and a piece of plate of the value of lOOsove ; second horse, 30eovs; and third, lOsovs from the stake. Douglas's br m Rosofeldt, syrs, Bst 111b (Lindsay)... ... 3 194, Thamo, 7sb, also ran. The pace was slow ab firat, and Thame and Rosefeldfe led in turn. At the back of the course tte pace increased, and Dreamland went after Roaefeldt. The race seemed to be between those two, but before the distance post was reached Rangipuhi came with a web sail, and setting his field bounded to the front, and won very comfortably from Dreamland, the favourite being third. The rapid time for the mile and three-quarters was 3min 13 l-sth eec, Dividend, £5 ss. Nursery Handicap of lOOeove. Six furlongs. 278—Mr G.
