Waihi.—During the 38 days, ending the 10th insb., 2,779 tons of ore were crushed and treated for a yield of £6,509. ■'.. May Qokbn. —The manager telegraphed to-day : •• 201b of picked stone from west of the rise at No. 3 level."
Orlando.—A sale of 500 shares in this mine took place by auction ab noon to-day. The whole parcel realised 6d each. They were forfeiced for a Id call.
The current coin of the realm is nob so plentiful nowadays thab most people can afford to regard with indifference the loss of a considerable sum, and make no effort! to effect its recovery. There is apparently some such individual in Auckland,' however, as there is now in the possession of the police a purse containing a large sum of money. Thia was picked up abouk a week ago, but as yet no claimant haa put in an appearance nor have any inquiries been made. .
The Napier "Telegraph 1' saya: "We hear privately from Wellington thab the proposed changes in the police force and other departments of the Civil Service throughout the colony will not take effects until the eni- of;-; March, Further, thab Inspector Hickson, in charge of the Auckland district, .is to be transferred', to Napier, Inspector Emerson's new district) being, as we stated before, Wellington. This change, at all events, is now being contemplated, and will, be carried into effect, unless, of coarse*-'the Goveirhmebt'a present intentions are altered." ;.Qne of our Staff interviewed Inspector Hickaon today, and "-.ke. stated thab he had received no intimation whatever in. reference to being transferred to Napier, and, further, he does nob beliere thab the statement contained in the para* graph is correct.
