WATCHMAKERS' PICNIC.

Yesterday the watchmakers' and jewellers' annual picnic was held at Mobuihi. The Eagle, which had been chartered for the 'day, was well patronised on both her trips down to the island by those belonging to the trade and their friends. It is estimated thatclose on 800 people were conveyed to Motuihi yesterday. A large number of yachts from Auckland wera also in the bay. Hunter's Band supplied the music, and it goes without saying that it was of the best. During the day a course of sports came off on the beach at the tar side of the island. The morning was devoted to races for children, under the supervision of Messrs Holden and Martinson. The events of the afternoon were confined to- adults, and several very good races resulted, the handicapping being very good on the whole. Mr Kohn presided over the races, and the credit for the way the whole programme of the day passed off is due to his energy, together with that of Mr White, the Secretary, and part of the Committee. The results of the various events are as follows :—

After the races, games and dancing were started in the hall, which was kindly lent by Mr Heighton. Embarkation commenced at 6.30, but owing to the lowness of the tide it had to bo discontinued, and the Eagle did not leave"till 11 p.m., arriving in Auckland at midnight. The prizes are to bo presented to the successful competitors in the day'B sports at the Young Men's Rooms on Friday evening at 8 o'clock.
