Christchurch, Saturday. The Canterbury innings closed for S3l, Pearce (55) and Collins (26) scoring well ab the finish. Austin took six wicketb for 110, and Gould four for 69. The New South Wales batting was disappointing to the 3,000 spectators present, making uo headway against the bowling of Robertson and Labatt, who bowled unchanged. Runs came steadily from start and with 61 on the board, when Palmer clean bowledSoarle in hißsecond over—62—4—l7. Moore joined McKenzie when the score had reached 77. Moore was caught at slip off, a bumpy ball —77—5—9. Austin was the next man in.

Scoring now livened up a bit. At 113, McKenzie was woll caught nb mid-on, and had bo retire with a well-gob 60.
