Alleged Assault. — David Thomas Parker was charged wibh having assaulted Arthur Barnes on the 4th of December. — Mr W. J. Napier, who appeared for the defendant, asked for an adjournment until Wednesday. This was agrcod to by Mr A. E. T. Devore and the Bench accordingly granted the adjournment. (Before Messrs J. Callnan and J, Gordon).
Master and Apprentice. — Alexande r Thompson, a youth, was charged with having on the 4th of December absented himself from employment without the leave of his master Frederick Adolphus Lee.—Mr N. G. Brassey appeared for the complainant, and Mr T. Cotter for the defendant, who pleaded nob guilty. It transpired that the lad was suffering from something wrong with the lungs, whereupon Mr Brassey said, under the circumstances, ho would not a3k for any order. He suggested that the case should be adjourned until he got better.— Mr Cotter, however, asked that the case should be dismissed and costs allowed. The Bench decided to hear evidonce- an to the boy's health.—Mrs Grace Young, mother of defendant, depoised that she kept her son home because he was unfit to go to work.—The Bench ordered the defendant to go back to work and pay costs. —Mr Cotter protested against this course, as he bad understood that Mr Brassey had been willing not to leb the case proceed, and that it was only a question of costs to be considered. That was why he had only called the boy's mother. The defendant had not yet been examined. —Mr Gordon said, " Speaking for myself, I don't think there is any need for further evidence. My opinion is that the case should be dismissed, and defendant to pay costs."—Mr Cotter: "Now, Your Worships are in a peculiar position. I know of no law by which each Justice can give a decision.' —Mr Callnan said, "Mr Gordon agreed with my decision in the Crst instance."—The Bench then consulted together for some minutes, and ultimately it was decided to dismiss the case without costs.
