CITY COUNCIL.

At the ordinary meeting of the City Council, held yesterday evening in tha Council Chamber, there were present:—The Mayoi (Mr Crowther), Messrs Garrebt, Trenwith, Julian, Glover, Grey.Kidd, Swales, Wright, Far rell, Holland, He arson, Hesketh, Warren, Powley, and Patterson. "*A Complaint.—Mr A. T. Good, of VinV cent-street, drew the attention of the Council by letter to the alleged disorderly behaviour of certain individuals in some buildings situated in Southporb Terrace off Grey-street. This matter was referred to the Legal Committee. Draikage.—Messrs Carder Bros, and Coi made an offer of 5,000 hard bricks as their contribution towards the construction of ) sewer through their property front Sheehan-streeb to Clarence-street. — Th 4 offer was referred to the Streets Com* mittee. . m Tenders.—The following" tenders wqjA received for dog collars :—G. W, Dalfcom Bfd each; J. W. Smith, 7*d; Geo. ThorpC 6|d; Geo. Allen, £20 153 per 1,000.0 Allen's tender was accepted. — Mesar) Leyland and O'Brien, D. Goldie, the Wai temata Saw Mills Company and the Kauri Timber Company sent in tenders for th* supply of building timber. That of Mesar) Leylan and O'Brien being the lowest, was accepted.—The consideration of tenders f(.r printing received from W. McCullougn. D. J. Wright, H. Brett and the New Zeal* land " Herald" was deferred till nex b meeting, The nexb tenders were for the leasing of a paddock and hotel at Western Springs, The tender of N. Lowe was £56 per year 5 D. Ryan, £57; S. Meekin, £55; J. X, Martin, £64; G. Knight, £65; and Hughes, £60. Mr Meekin'a tender was declared informal, and on the motion of Cr. Kidd, it was agreed to accepb the higheat tender, which was that of Mr Knight. This tenderer wished to take the property on lease for seven years, but it was decided that it should not be for more than three years as stated in the advertisement.—The tender of R. O. Clark, the only tender received for drain pipes, was referred to tha engineer. There was also only one tender for lime and sand, that of J. J. Craig.— It was not accepted as the prices quoted were considered too high. The following were the tenderers for horee feed :—R. J. Eccles, W. and G. Winstone, J. J. Craig, Robertson Bros.' and R. W. Martin.—The tender of J. J. Craig being the lowest, waa accepted. Streets Committee. — This Committee recommended that the report of the Engineer re the application of J. W. Cook for the filling up of the footpath be forwarded, to the applicant. They also recommended that the request of J. D. Webster for permission to erect a sunblind be granted, the blind to be subject to removal at any time upon notice. The residents of Prospect* street, having sent a petition re condition of tbe street and the lighting of the game, the Committee recommended that a reply in terms of the Engineer's report, viz., thab the forming and lighting of the road will be continued in due time, and that the question of an additional lamp will be considered at the next allocation of lamps be forwarded to tbe petitioner. Thq Committee had no recommendation to make in answer to the letter from the ratepayers in Shelly Beach Road and Cameron* street, re gully drainage.—l he report was adopted. 1 Cricket Ground.—ln reference to a, letter from the Secretary of tbe Auckland^ Cricket Association the Legal Committea recommended that the present Ground Committee be discharged with a view of appointing a new Committee. On tho motion of Cr. Farrell the question of the Committee thab should be appointed was referred to the Domain Committee.
