Onehunoa. Mayoralty.—ln regard to the election of Mrs Yates to the Mayoralty of Onehunfa, "Observer" writes asking if the Municipal Corporations Act makes it legal for a woman to sit as mayor. "Observer" is under the impression that it does nob. In reply, we would point out that thero is nothing in the Act which excludes a woman on account of her sex from becoming mayor. The use of the masculine pronoun in the wording of the Act is evidently what has misled 11 Observer." He is, it seems, nob aware thab by the Interpretation Act _ the masculine gender includes the feminine in such instances.
