WELLINGTON V. AUCKLAND.

The inter-provincial cricket match which commences on the Domain oval to-morrow, between the representatives of Wei lington and Auckland, ia exciting a great amount of interest in town now thab the olections are decided. Ansenne. Tho Auckland Eleven may be expected to render a fair accounb of themselves, and although Wellington are strong favourites a mosb interesting game is anticipated. Play commences at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Tho Crickeb Association will provide afternoon tea for tho convenience of tbe ladies. Tho Wellington team is a very strong one. and they aro favouritos for the contest. The Southerners are noted for their free batting, tho majority of the eleven being hard hitters. The following notice gives a shorb descripbion of tho abilities of tho respective players :— Harris (Phcenix).—A left-hand bab of the firsb class ; has many dashing strokes, and when once going, is a very hard man to get rid of ; a good ilold in almost any position. Niven (Phcenix).— The wickeb-keeper of the team, considered by all Southerners to be the best in New Zealand ; bears the reputation of being Wellington's mosb reliable scorer this season. Bknlow (Pluenix).—A vory good change bowler, fair bab, and excellent field; has bowled well for his club bhis season. FmsiMMONS (Midland). — One of the team's mainstays in bowling; breaks from both sidea, with good pace, and varies his pitch considerably, and hae tho advantage otnot disclosing his break before delivery ; good bat and excellent field. Lash (Midland).—Taken the place of Williams ab bhe lasb momenb. A good, reliable run-getter, and has fielded well for his club.

Upham'(Midland).—The fasb bowler of the team, and ia considered by good judges to be one of the best in New Zealand. Bowls with excellent judgment, never tiroe. As a bat he is in the fronb rank ; a good field in any position. Holdship (Wellington).—A splendid bat on all wickets ; good defence, and punishes anything looso in fine style. Good field. Gore (Wellington).—Another good bat; a most consistonb scorer for hia team, and does excellent work in the field. Dryden (Rival*).—A dodgy bowler, varies bio pitch and pace with break both ways ; good field, and often scores ; played with Wellington against Auckland on the last occasion in the Domain. Cross (Rivals). —The veteran of tho team and is the best bat among tbe visitors ; hia brilliant scoring haa been tho general topic among Wellington cricketers this season ; good _eld, and keeps wickots for his club. Fuller (Rivals). —A good all round man, and haa always come off in big matches ; has a peculiar style but ia very effective as a run getter. TucKEP.(Midlands).—A very fair, bat, and as mid-wicket for his club is considered the best in Wellington ; bowls fairly well at times. The following particulars of the players chosen to represent Auckland shouui prove interesting ;— J: Ansenne (Gordon). —las steady bat, but seldom distinguishes himself; slow uo scoro. Had a club average of 13 runs lasb season. Is a good field. First appearance as an Auckland rop. J. Arneil (Auckland). —One of tho boat known and most popularcricketers in Auckland. Ha 3 frequently rendered Bterlin_r servico to bis province. When in form is one of the moat reliable men we havo ever produced; Has not paid strict attention to practice this past two seasons. Would be a good man bo captain the team, and will mosb likely be chosen bo fill thab position. J. N. Fowke (Gordon). — One of I the besb wicket-keepers of the colony. Is a reliable, steady bat, and generally makes runs when wanted. Represented Canterbury for ten years, and haa worn the Auckland colours for the past four seasons, is captain of the Gordon C.C. W. Gardiner (Parnell), —The crack batsman of Auckland for the pasb two seasons. Is shorb of practice thia year, bub when in form is a vory consistent and lasb scorer. He is a very hard hitter with good defence, and a splendid outfiold. Gardiner holds the record for the biggest hit ever mado on the Domain. D. Hay (United).—The colt of the team, and a vory promising ono too. Played for the Grammar School Elevon up to lasb season, when he was broughb in to the senior ranks by the United C.C. Ho ia among the first flight of our bowlers, haring a good break, both sides, with plenty of pace. Is also a reliable bat. His first appearance as a representative. J. A. Kallender (Gordon). —Tha giant, of the teum, stands Gffc 34in, and only weighs 18 stone. Without doubt tlio hardest hitter in tho colony, and when ho makes runs, scores very quickly. Ia the fact bowler of the team. First appearance aa a representative. H. W. Lawson "(Parnell).— An ex- Wellington representative ; is a good bowler and field, bub only a fair bat. Has represented Auckland before. j I. Mills (farnell). —Is on presenb form the boat bat in tho team. Has been showing good form ab practice this | season, and is a man on whom Auck-1 land greatly depends. Is a good field, : and a fair bowlor. Has represented Auckland before. R. Neill (Auckland).—Tho slow bowler of the team, and one likely to secure wickets. Uaes a lot of judgment, and breaks both ways. Ia also a most reliable and steady bat. Has represented Auckland before. Rev. I. Richards (Auckland).—A good, steady bat, and generally makea runs by his leg stroke. A fair hold, and can keep wicket*. Has represented Auckland before. ]N. Williams (Gordon). —Tho last, but not least, as Aucklanders expect to ace this punishing batsman acoro freely against tho visitors. Is a fair field and bowler.
