To the Editor: Sir,—l am informed that some of the audience at my meeting on Wednesday evening last misunderstood my remarks on the Shop Hours Bill. Will you kindly permit me to say that I am heartily in favour of the Shop Hours Bill, and have advocated early closing for fully seventeen years. The amendments ot the Bill I spoke of on the platform are with a view of making the Bill more efficient.—Yours, etc., W. J. NaWER.

The Bland Holt Dramatic Company closed their Wellington season last) evening to one of the biggest houses seen in the Empire City.1 Mr Harry Norman stage manager, the atage carpenter, and the bulk of the scenery arrived to-day by the W aihora. The company leave Wellington by the Takapuna this afternoon, arriving here to-morrow evening.

Captain Edwin teleeraphed the following weather forecnst at 1.35 p.m. to-day :- "Northeast to north and west gale, with rain after 10 hours from now ; glass, fail. The first picnic of the Helping Hand Young People's Society of Christian Endeavour was held yesterday at the Mannkau. About 80 persons mostly young people, left the Mission Hall at 9 a.m. Arriving at their destinat.on they were heartily" welcomed by Mr and Mrs L Little, whose farm was kindly thrown open for their use. After a very enjoyable day the party arrived home about & 30 p.m.
