STATE ELECTION IN THE STATES.
REPUBLICAN VICTORIES,
Washington, November 9. With the assistance of the Independent Democrats bhe Republicans have achieved a remarkable success in bhe State elections, though in many cases bhe issues are not of a national character, la New York ib is stated that the Democrats have sustained a crushing defeat, the great struggle being over Isaac Maynard's candidacy-fora judgeship in the Court of Appeal. Maynard was defeated by the Independent Democrats, and the Tammany ticket carried in New York.
McKinley's decisive victory for the Governorship of Ohio encourages the hope of his party tlmb he will be nominated as the Republican candidate at the next Presidential election. The Republicans also meb with great success in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and lowa. The Democrats carried Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland.
