IMPORTANT NOTICE k TO ■ J, CAPITALISTS. X^ALUABLE /^OAL T ANDS FOR SALE BY TENDER, IN THE HIKURANGI DISTRICT, AUCKLAND.* It being the inten:-lon to wind up the BAY OF ISLANDS COAL COMPANY, upon a favourable sale being effected of its VALUABLE COAL-BEARING LANDS at Hikurangi, the Directors have been authorised to in rite Tenders for the different Lots, in whole or in part :— 1. 120 acres being S.E. and S.W. portions of Section 40. 2. 38 acres 1 rood 24 perches, middle portion of Section 36. 3. 88 acres, being Section 76. 4. SO acres, being S. portion of Section 33, and N. portion of Section 34. 5. 197 acres 1 rood 13 perches, being Sections 51, 52, and S. W. portion of Section 50. In tho first-mentioned block of 120 acres, Coal has been found within 18 inches of the surface, 8 feet thick; and in another portion of the block the seam was found in a bore hole of very moderate depth to be 11 feet thick. It is described by tbe expert (Mr Moody) as a "strong, hard, bright, clean coal, of most excellent quality.' The Hikurangi Section of the Whangarei-Kamo Railway is approaching completion. The rails ar» now being laid. This railway is formed right into the centre of the block, within a short distance of where the Coal is found. As the Coal can be worked level free, the expenditure for working will be trifling, and it is only a matter of some months for the railway to be opened, and direct communication established with the Railway Wharf on the Whangarei River. The second lot (38 acres) is situated quite near to the block just described. It is in the direct line of the strike of Coal, and, with regard to it, Mr Moody says that " it is tull of coal." No. 3 (83 acres) is also at a moderate distance from the first block, and the Coal seam, as found in one of the neighbouring lots, is dipping right into it. Mr Moody reports on this that it is undoubtedly all Coal land. This block also contains about 100,000 feet of dry kauri trees, available for building or mining purposes. No. 4 (80 acres) is well within the Coal area, and Coal ha.*, been seen in sections in the immediate neighbourhood. No. 5 is in part bush land, and contains useful timber for mining purposes. With regard to the quality of the Coal, it may be stated that Coal taken from what is undoubtedly the same seam has been used by the Union Steamship Co., and also by blacksmiths and for household purposes iv the district, and has been proved to be of very superior quality. Tenders to be sent not later than December Ist, addressed to "The Chairman Bay of Islands Coal Co., Auckland," endorsed "Tender for Lands," and to be accompanied by a marked cheque equal to 5 per cent, of the amount tendered.
