THE BOATING FATALITY.

SUBSCRIPTION LIST OPENED. This morning a young fellow named Edward Hynee reported to Sergeant Kelly, of Devonporb, thab he haid noticed a body floating just opposite Mr W. Holmes' shipbuilding yard. Sergeant Kelly proceeded to the locality indicated, and found the body to be that of a young gjixl, who was subsequently identified an Aura Baillie, daughter of M r Crawford Baillie, settler, of Henderson. The remains were removed to the morgue. This had hardly been accomplished when the passengers of one of the Northcote ferry steamers, halfway between Auckland and Northcote, discovered a nude male body which was quickly rocognised by the absence of clothing to be thab of James Baillie. Constable Luke McDonnell bad tbe remains also removed to the morgue. It seems evident that the brother had meb bis death in endeavouring to save bissister'slife. There will bo no inquest, as the bodies have been identified by relatives. A subscription list has now beou opened at this office, and donations will be gladly receivod on behalf of tbe wife and eighb young children of Mr John Baillie, who sacrificed bis own life in attempting to savo others. We are euro that the residents of Auckland, who are noted for their generosity and sympathy, will contribute liberally to so deserving an object.
