POLICE COURT--(THIS DAY-)

Justices). Drunkenness. —One first offender was re' raandcd for two days for medical treatment.
Lost his Purse.—Thomaa Kowlea was charged with having committed a breach of the Shipping and Seaman's Act, 1877, by travelling in the 8.8. Taviuni from Fiji to Auckland, without having paid his fare of £4. Defendant] pleaded guilty, and said that he had been working at the Colonial Sugar Refining Ccmpany's place ab Suva for the last seven months. Ho had saved up a few pounds, but as he was running down to the steamer from the hotel he lost a purse containing £11. He had friends in Auckland who would pay the money if he was allowed tocotnmunicae with them.
The Bench inflicted a tine of 20s and costs £4, or in default one month's hard labour. If his friends paid the money, the prisoner would of course be released. Alleged False Pretences. — Henry Charles Hill was charged with having obtained from Lewis Mosee, £5 and £2 10a, by false pretences. —Mr McAllister appeared for the prosecution, and asked for an adjournment.—Mr W. J. Napier appeared for the defendant; and said the trouble was that Court work was accumulating. One case had already been postponed for nine weeks, and another case for five weeks. The Clerk of the Court said there was a case fixed for Wednesday in which 27 witnesses were engaged.—The Bench adjourned the case until next Friday.
