THE RIFLE ' CHAMPIONSHIP.
TEAMS MATCH WON BY THE
PETONE CLUB.
Sydney, bhis day. Lieut. HoNEY.who won the Rifle Championship, hails from Kiawa, nob Victoria Private Mitchell, of Queensland, was second with 323. Soaman Nelson, of Now South Wales, was third wibh 320. The following are the New Zealand prize takers in the champion aggregates : —W. Ballingor, 309; McFarlane, 307 ; Webster, 3GI; Brown, 299 ; Wilkis, 298 ; Howe, 296 ; Kirk, 291; Tobin, 290. The Champion Teams match was won by the Pebone Rifle Club, Wellington, with a score of 1,_69. The Sb. Leonard's team was second, with 1,442; Bal larab third, with 1,428. A protest has been lodged againsb the Potone team, chiefly on the ground thab while ib embraced members of the Defence Force, ib purported to be a private Club. The Committee of the Association have called upon tbe Club to show cause why ib should no be disqualified. The Petone Club won this match lasb year, and no objection was bhen made to the sbabus of the Club. If the Club be not disqualified ib will socure the Challenge Cup, having won ib twice. The Auckland Club was thirteenth, wibh 1,366. Sydney, October 20. A treacherous wind blowing to-day interfered somewhab with tho shooting. The championship, with £50 and a gold medal, was won by Liout. Honey, Victoria, with a score of 330. In the President's Match Gunner. Howo, Wellington, 46; Humphries and Harris, 42, wero among the prize-takers in this match. The trophy presented by the proprietors of the " Colonial Military Gazette " for the highest score at 600 yards was won by Howe with 29.
