Id connection with the despatch received by tho Victorian Government, the Premier states ho ia personally favourable to the Pacific cable passing through British waters, but that he does not think a cable to Now ■ Caledonia will interfere with such an idea. From an interview ho has had with Mr Bowcll. the Canadian Commissioner; he anticipates that preliminary steps will be taken in a fow months to connect New Zealand with Fiji, and thence with Vancouver. Brisbane, October 16. Tho laying of the cable to New Caledonia has been completed.
