BREAK-DOWN OF ST. HIPPO.
We are sorry to chronicle thab Mr L. D. Nathan's crack race-horse St. Hippo has gone amiss. The horse was given a strong gallop at Hastings thia morning for the purpose of testing his soundness, with the result that h6 broke down. To-day St. Hippo was scratched for bhe New Zoaland Cup and all obher engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club Spring Meeting. George Wright, St. Hippo's trainer, returns from Napier by Monday's steamer. Ail who admire such a straight-going sportsman aa Mr Nathan will be sorry to hear of his misfortune.
A Preßß Asaociation telegram from Christchurch says thab St. Hippo was scratched for all engagements at the C. J. C. meeting this morning.
