Christchurch, thiß day. A larely-attended public meeting last night convenod by tho East and West Coasb Railway League passed a motion thanking tho Canterbury members of the House of Representatives for bheir zealous and untiring service in the cause of the railway, and directing that the resolution bo recorded in tho minuto-book as a mark of bho appreciation of the people of Canterbury; thanking tho Chairman and Executive Council of the Railway League, and expressing tho opinion that every candidate for Parliamentary honours should pledge himself to supporb by every means in his powor the prodocubion of th£ railway to an ultimate conclusion; according spocial thanks bo members of Parliamenb from obber disbrictß thon Canterbury, Nelson and Woatland, who voted for the railway, and recognised ib as a colonial work. The Mayor occupied the chair, and among the speakers woro the Hon. VV. P. Reeves and Msbsi-s Sandford, Tanner, Taylor and Guinness, M.H.R.'s.
