KEPORTER.)

Wellington, this day. The Public Works Statement, which has been the occasion of so much anxious solicitude for some weeks past, will, it is understood, bo introduced to the House at this evening's sitting. It will (following the course adopted last year) be simply laid on the table, and no debate will follow upon its presentation. Tho total amount of money available for distribution by the Ministry over railways, roads, and other works during the year is understood to bb £650,000,madeupasfollowe:—£255,000 from surplus revenue, £200,000 from unexpended balances and £200,000 from public works fund.

Details of the proposed expenditure are not yet at my disposal, but I understand that in addition to a liberal allotment of monoy / among various railway works on both Islands, there will be £200,000 sot apart for the making of roads to open up Crown lands for settlement.

These road works, as well as the greater portion of the railway works, will bo conducted on the co-operativo principle.
