On Saturday afternoon the s.s. Gairloch arrived from New Plymouth after a fine weather passage. She Bailed again on the return trip ab 1 p.m. to-day. The s.a. Takapuna, from her usual Southern ports, arrivod at mid-nighb on Saturday. She experienced fine weather throughout the trip. She took her departure again this afternoon. Tho bnrquentino Vacuna is now discharging her cargo of coal ab the wharf. The pnmps are also fully manned and kepb going, but as yeb there are no perceptible sign* of gaining upon the leak. Ib is expected, however, thab the atrain she has received will not be of a serious nature, and thai) as her corgo is discharged the pumps will mako headway againsb the inflow of water.
The Kanieri, Captain Johnson, arrived from Waitara via Aotea yesterday morning. Captain Johnßton, when the Kanieri lay ab Kawbia, rode overland to Aotea. He carefully surveyed the harbour there, and was so satisfied with its safety, thab he returned to Kawhia and took his steamer to Aotea, whore no donbb a trade will^bo opened up with thab district. Tho Northern Company are to be congratulated upon their enterprising spirit In opening up many hitherto unknown or doubtful harbours.
