Washington, September 15. News from Brazil states that a desperate sea fight has taken place between the loyal Brazilian warship Bfthia and the insurgent vessel Alagop. The latter was difablod. Tho bombardment of the capital lasted two days, and the rebels have gained a foothold in Rio do Janeiro.
The President has abundoned the capital nnd retreated to Santa Anna with a few loyal troops.
Tho rebols have been reinforced with supplies of arms by sailing ships. Tho robollion i« spreading, nnd Bahia and Pcrnambuc;> are joining the rebel*?.
All tho forte in Rio do Janeiro oxcoptono have gono ovor to the robole.
An attack on Rio Grande is foared
News to hand states that the bombarders aro protecting tho islands in tho harbour of Rio.
Rio Janeiro, September 16,
The insurgents have seized tho Customs House and Arsenal, and also captured Nictheroy, a suburb five miles oast of the city.
