Wellington', this day, THE GUMFIELDS' REPORT.

It is reported that the House will bo ! afforded an ea-ly opportunity of discussing the Gumtielcl.' Commission report, but tho question as to whether legislation shall bo proposed has not been determined. Tho Premier considers the report a very good ono, and that the Commissioners have made a most exhaustive inquiry into the matters they were appointed to investigate. VAILE'S RAILWAY SCHEME. It is very probable that there will bs a meetiuer o; members shortly to discuss the prospects of Mr Vaile's railway system. That gentleman, who is at present in Wellington on private business, is a by no moans unfamiliar figure in the precincts of the House. A deputation consisting of Messrs W. E. .Smith, Lawry and Houston, waited on the Minister for Lands with tho object of bringing under his uotico tho great desirability of appointing an instructor to proceed to the North for the purpose of giving information and instruction to small settlers and others in modern methods of dairy operations. Mr Houston introduced the deputation, and forcibly pointed our the advantages of such a course to the whole of the small settlors. Messrs Smith and Lawry etroiij/ly supported him. The Minister promised to consider tho matter. It was of great importance, and he would reply during the day. Messrs It. Thomson and Palmer were unable to be present, but expressed entire concurrence with the views of tho deputation. PARLIAMENTARY OFFICERS. Contrary to opinion, tho Privileges Committee, by six to five, carried a report placing all Parliamentary ofiicors under control of Ministers. Thero is sure to be tierce discussion in the Houso over the matter.
