MISCELLANEOUS.

Formo, Adam, and Marion, are the favourites among tho Elleralie trainers for the two-year-old race to be run ab the A.rt.C. Spring Meeting this month. There aro plenty of inquiries at Ellerelie as to who will measure ponies on behalf of b!ie Auckland Racing Club. I hear thab Mr G. G. Stoad haß laid a wager of 1,000 to 80 againsb Sfc. Hippo for the New Zealand Cup, and that the owner of the son of St. Leger was the taker. The great " classic " evenb of the back end of the English racing season, viz., the Doncaater St. Leger, comes up for decision on Wednesday next. Among those ongaged is the unbeaten colt Isinglags, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas and Derby this year. Should Isinglasß bo bucceasful in winning the St. Legor he will have achievod the distinction of annexing the " Triple Crown," a feab only secured by Wosb Australian, Gladiateui, Lord Lyon, Ormonde and Common. There appears to be little doubt thab the gallant Bon of laononiy is equal to tho occasion, all going well. His dam is by the St. Leger winner Wenlock, from Malpractico by Chevalier A'lndnßtrio, from The Dutchman's Daughter by Flying Dutchman. During the present week Onyx (the dam of the celebrities, Nordenfeldb and Sardonyx) dropped a filly foal (dead) to Cuiraseier. This is a bib of bad luck for the Wellington Park stud-master. Sunrise (by Ramai-ama—Awatea, dam of Grip) has produced a colt foal to Holchkiss.

J. Ruddy, the energetic caretaker of the Ellsrs'lie racecourse, and start aro asphalting thab portion of the giandstand onclosuro adjoining the totalisator houso, which was to have been concreted. They aro making a good job of the work. Mr G. G Stead's pair Melinite and Stepniak have done famously on the track Bince they landed at Sydney. Melinite, who is weighted ab 7sb 61b, is first favourite for tho A.J.C. Epsom Handicap of l,ooosovs, one mile, run on the 16th September. Whakavvatea (Bst6lb), Launceston (Bst 61b), and Impulse (Sab 61b) iiguro among the acceptors. Owners of trotting horses and ponies should not forget that nominations for tho Auckland Trotting Club Spring Meeting are due on Friday, September 15th.

Yesterday the following nominations were received for the Canterbury Cup of 50030V8, two miles and aquarter:—St. Hippo, Skiimishor, Stepniak, Loyalty, Merganser, Hippomenes, Stanmoor, St. Anthony, Aldershob, Clanranald, Saracen, Gitano, Pegasus, Tussock, Magazine, Wesbmere, Prime Warden, Outpost.

From Melbourne papers 1 gather that the double Newton and Newman for tho Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup h»8 been well supported. Division and Wild Rose have also been backed for tho Caulfield Cup in conjunction with several Melbourne Cup candidates. Division has hardened in the market for iho Caulfield Cup, fche beat price, straighb oub, now offered against him being 100 to 7. Sternchaser has also firmed for tho Melbourne Cup, and is now an equal favourite with Caraoola and Cremorne at 100 to 6. For the A.J.G. Metropolitan Stakes, Stepniak and Donation are favourites.

The annual mooting of the Papakura Racing Club was held ab the Globe Hotel, Papakura, on Wednesday evening. Thero was a good attendance. The roporb and balanco-aheeb (which showed a small profit on last year) was adopted. Tho necessary committee and stewards for the ensuing year were elected. Tho Club decided to hold their annual mooting on the 17th March, 1594.

Three brood mare 3 belonging to Mr W. Rabhbone wore brought up from Napier this week on a visit to Sb. Logor, viz., Wateraprite by |Traducer—Waterwitch, dam of Stoneyhurat); Burd Helen (by Cadogan—Holene), and Mrs Rawden (by King ot Clubs—Becky Sharp).

The Now Zealand horses Stepniak, Melinite, Ich Dien, Launceston, Loyalty, The Dreamer, Whakawatea and Impulse figure among tho general entries for the forthcoming A. I.C. Spring Meeting, which opens ab Randwick on the I6bh September. The entries for the Spring Stakes, \\ mile, w.f.a., are as follow:—Stopniak, Donation, Paris, Oxide, Pippin, The Admiral, Bungobah, Projectile, Loyalty, Salutation, Mahoe, Camoola, Cremorne, Recovery Panoply, Sunshine. Vakeel is reported to have reappeared on the tracks at Morphetville without showing any signs of tho injuries which caused his preparation to bo suspended. Mr "Joo" Thompson, writing from •England, says thab the ring mon there have been having a very bad time of it lately, and some have been ab their wits ends to pull through. Wild Rose, the Newmarkeb Handicap winner, appears to be in good form again. Ab the Victorian Club (Caulfiold) races, on Augusit 19, she vvon the Victorian Club Handicap, 1 mile 3 furlongs. Sainfoin and Ducrow filling the other places. The Auckland-bred pair All There and Bessie McCarthy were among tho large unplaced division. Wild Rose does nob incur rohandicapping, and attention has been tutnod to her chance of annexing the Caulfield Cup, in which her weight is Bat 121b.

Carnage and Patron aro favourites for tho V.R.U. Derby on tho other side. Malenore, a daughter of Malua and Lenore, won the Sapling Stakes at Epsom (Victoria) this month, the second two-year-old race of tho soason. The winner is but a 13hds 2in pony, and was bought as a yearling at 27igs. Mr S. H. Gollan s two-year-old colts by Sb. George—Fair Nell" and Maxim— Ji'loronce McCarthy, are about to be shipped from Nupier to join Martin's team at Caulfield. .. Every once in a while we hoar of a giant yearling, b°ub the measurements of a yearline cofb that is now at a breeding farm at Lewes, England, are startling. The colt iaby a thoroughbred horse, Warrenton (by Martyrdom) oub of a half-bred hunting raare. Height, 15h 2|in ; girth, sft llin ; arm, lfb lOin ; below knee, Bin ; round the kneo 14 inches ; round the hock (inside to the point), 18in. g London " Pveferee " announced in ono of itßrecentissuesthat Mr Edward Weatherby, who bought Meddler for Mr Forbes, of Americn, had a commission to bid up to 20,000 guineas.
