CA.DMAN V. REES.

ELECTION NOTES,

The following reply has been senb by Mr Rees' agenb to Mr Worth, president of the Trade and Labour Council:—

"Mr Rees' Committee rooms, Queenstreet, July 27th, 1893. — Mr W. H. Worth : Sir, —I have this morning received your letter of yesterday, and in reply regreb thab in the advertisement for Mr Roes' meeting on Friday noxb, after your name, tho words, " chairman of the Trades and Labour Council" wore added. I can assure you that neither myself nor the Committee had the slightest intention or wish to lead the public to suppose that the Trades and Labour Council were identified with one or either of the candidates at tho approaching election. But as there are no less than 6 persons named Worth in the Auckland Directory for 1893, I thought it would be as well to describe accurately who the chairman was who had Dromised to preside at Friday's meeting. With regard to the nomination paper which you signed, your occupation was therein correctly described as bootmaker. At the same time you aro no doubt well known aa the chairman of the Trades and Labour Council, and I daresay that is the reason why the writer in the " Herald " referred to the fact. I have only further to add thab Mr Bees as well as the Committee aro extremely sorry if the matter has given riße to any misunderstanding, or caused you any annoyance.—Your obedient servant, James Adams, hon. secretary.
