The brieantine Borough Belle, which returned to Sydney from an island cruise on the 16th inst., was boarded in the Solomon Group by the Rev. Mr Comins, who is in charge of ono of the Melanesian mission stations. Mr Comins has for many years laboured in the group, and his name is favourably known by the natives. His station at Gavuta is described as the most prosperous in this archipelago. Labourrecruiting is largely carried on in the Islands, the chief customers being the French, for New Caledonia and the New Hebrides stations, and the planters in Queensland. Natives are reported as volunteering readily for Queensland. The nomination paper for the election of Mr W. L. Rees« was* lodged with the Returning Officer tbia morning, accompanied with the necessary deposit of £10. His proposers were Mr Thomas Gee, coachbuilder, and Mr W. H. Worth, chairman of the Trades and Labour Council.
