The brigantine Defiance is to load coal ab Newcastle for this port. H. M.s, Tauranga left Noumea on the 14th inst. for the New Hebrides. H. M.s. Orlando called ab Russell this morning en route to Brisbane, The barque Graamere has cleared ab the Customs for Melbourne, via the Kaipara. Ths well-known barque Orari sailed from Newcastle for Valparaiso on the 19th inst. The French warships Thetis, Loyalty, and Scorff, were in porb at Noumea on the 16th insb. The Government steamer Hioemoa arrived ab Whaogarei Heads yesterday from chis port. On the 16th insb. the cargo-steamer Duke of Sutherland lefb Keppel Bay (Q.) for London. Yesterday afbernoon bhe s.s. Janet Niccol lefb Westporb for bhis port She is due here o n Friday. The Spanish training-ship Nautilus arrived at Lybtelton ab 9 a.m. to-day from Wellingbon. The barquenbine Waitemata was berthed ab the breastwork this afternoon, near the Graving Dock. The brigantine Borough Bello returned to Sydney on tho 17th insb. from a trip to the Solomon Islands. The schooner Sarah Pile, from Sydney to this port, waß lyidg in Jervis Bay (N.S.W.)on the 18bh insb. For Sydney, via Tairua, bhe brigantine Anthons was cleared ab the Customs to-1 day with a timber cargo. The barque Natal Queen, which lefb Newcastle on the 18th for this port, was passed on the 21sb by the Manapouri. The s.s. Kanieri lefb lasb evening for Easb Coast ports en route bo Wellington, where she is bo be handed over to bbc Northern Steamship Company. ■ Ab Sydney the barquentino Jasper has been chartered bo load coal ab Newcastle for Townsville, bhonce for guano to Long Island for a New Zealand port. The cargo-steamer Duke of Argyll arrived ab Brisbane from Sydney on tb'a 17th insb. to load frozen meat for London. She comes over to Now Zealand to fill up. The Shaw-Savillship Westland, 186 tons, Captain Kelly, comes up to this porb from Napier to load for London. Messrs Cruickehank and Company are the agents of the vessel. The 5.3. Manapouri, which arrived from Sydney lasb night, reports passing ab 11.30 a.m. on the 22nd in lot. 33.57 south and long. 16252 easb a barque standing to the northward and eastward, arid ab 1 a.m on the 24th insb. a barque bound west. The new four-masted steel.ship Chiltonford, from Capetown, pub into Sydney on the 17th after knocking about on the coast for nearly a month trying to make Newcastle, where she loads coals for San Francisco. On the 3rd she was off Sydney Heads, and on the 10th was off Newcastle. She tows to bhe latter porb. Capb. Greensbreeb, bhe commander of the Rimutaka, who, much to the gratification of his passengers, took the vessel through tho Straits of Magellan on the lasfa homeward voyage, has informed us that ho will, weather permitting, do the same this time, thus offering a special inducement to tourists meditating returning Home. The barquo Loongana arrived ab Sydney on the 17tb insb. after a long cruise in the New Hebrides and Gilbert Groups. On the run from Sydney sho was in a hurricane near tho New Hebrides and for nine days she was hove-to under bare poles. During the gale bhe crew were standing by axe in hand ready to cub away the masts, although, fortunately, this extremity had not to be resorted to. . Completing ft smart brip of 4 dayß 4 hours, the s.e. Manapouri, from Sydney, with passengers and cargo, berthed ab the Quay-stieeb jetty &b 7.10 o'clock lasb evening. She lefb Sydney ab 2.15 p.m. on bhe 20th insb., cleared Port Jackson Heads ab 2.55 p.m., had bhe Three Kings abeam ab 12.30 a.m. on tho 24th, and rounded the North Cape at 4.45 a.m. She experienced moderate variable winds, and fins weather throughout tho passage*
