DEATH OF MR JOHN BLACKMAN.
Me John Blackman, formerly on the reporting staff of the Auckland Star, and for nearly 30 years a resident of Auckland, died suddenly yesterday afternoon ab his residence in Graf ton Road, aged 74. Mr Blackman complained of feeling unwell at dinner-time and went to lie on his bed. Shortly after he did so he expired in his sleep. Dr. Girdler was called in, bub found life extinct. As the deceased had nob been attended by any medical man, an inquest on his remains was deemed necessary. Mr Blackman leaves a widow and one son, and a uister (Mrs John Waymouth). Mr Blackman was a cultured literary man, aud a poet of considerable ability. He was a native of Surrey, England, and had for some years been secretary of the Southwark Institute, London. After having been a member of the Star journalistic staff for many years, Mr Blackman left this journal some years ago, and retired into private life. The funeral of deceased will take place to-morrow.
