London, April 20.

Dr. Cameron, M.P. for the College Division of Glasgow, intends to move in the House of Commons for a Select Committee to inquiro into tho practice of selling margarine as butter, and on the advice of Mr D. Wilson, the Victorian butter expert, it was agreed that tho evidence of the various Colonial Agents-General should be takeuon the subject.

London, April 21,

Mr Valentine, New South Wales butter expert, states that inquiries convince him of the necessity to improve the quality of butter exported from Sydney, also to maintain uniformity, and provide for regular shipments. Butter, ho says, should receive more careful handling on arrival, and ought to be brought in its natural condition from producer to coneiuner. He adds that the Imperial Government should be urged to display greater vigilance with regard to Merchandise, Mark, Margarine, Food and Di'UR9 Acts. Mr Valentine declares that if the Margarine Act was properly enforced, recent shipments of Australian butter would have realised an additional 10* per cwt.
